The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWGN) has
cautioned Nigerians against engaging in acts that can cause religious crisis in
any part of the country.
The group gave the advice in a statement signed by its
National Coordinator, Alhaji lbrahim Abdullahi, in llorin.
The group was reacting to alleged refusal by some security
men to allow Muslim women to wear the Hijab.
It said in the statement that the act could lead to
religious crisis.
The group noted that following President Muhammadu Buhari’s
comment on `wearing of Hijab’ during the Presidential Media Chat recently, some
unpatriotic Nigerians have started harassing Muslim women in some parts of the
country.
the group lamented that there were reports of some soldiers
stripping women of their Hijab in Lagos and some Muslim nurses and patients
were not allowed to wear their Hijab at Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.
It also noted that National Identity Card Management
Commission (NIMC) in Ibadan had refused to register women wearing Hijab.
The group, therefore, called on the president to direct law
enforcement agencies to warn the general public to desist from threatening
public peace.
It stressed that the warning became imperative to prevent
religious crisis in any part of the country.
The group said Muslim Ummah will not stand by and watch
people attack helpless Muslim women under whatever guise
