400 widows, others empowered by Foundation

An Anambra-based group, the Onwa Igbariam Empowerment Foundation, has empowered no fewer than 400 widows and some people living with disabilities with cash and food items worth millions of naira.

Presenting the items at Igbariam in Anambra, the founder, Chief Lawrence Anikpe, said that the gesture was aimed impacting positively the lives of poor people in the area.

Chief Lawrence said they intend to set up a skill acquisition centre for the indigent people and widows in Igbariam, where different people can be empowered with skills to earn a living for themselves.

Anikpe, a businessman, said that the initiative, instituted in memory of his late Father, Chief Raymond Anikpe, who believed in assisting humanity, would be an annual event.

He commended Gov. Willie Obiano for improving security in the state.

One of the beneficiaries and widow, Mrs Nkechi Abigbogu, lauded the gesture and prayed God to bless the foundation.

Another beneficiary, Mr Godwin Okeke, while expressing his appreciation, however, appealed to the foundation to include mobility aids and other useful devices for those with mobility challenges in subsequent donations.
