Onyeka Onwenu condemns violence against women

the Director General, National Centre for Women Development (NCWD),Ms Onyeka Onwenu,  has condemned the incessant violation of rights of women and minors in the country.

She spoke on Tuesday, at a press conference organised by NCWD in Abuja.

According  to her,The rate at which young girls are being abused and their rights violated is mind blowing and the society cannot progress under such inhuman attitude of our people.
Onwenu said that the family, which was expected to serve as the principal point of protection for the girl-child, in many cases had turned to be the contrary.

``The law enforcement agencies should wake up to their responsibilities and add value to the lives of our young girls, because they are the future mothers of our nation, “she stressed.

She said that the protection of rights of children was not the responsibility of the government alone.

The DG charged communities, churches, extended families and the entire citizenry to work assiduously to protect the interest and lives of the Nigerian child.
