Kogi State Government Debunk claims on Jonathan's rejection of Wada's Second term bid

The attention of the Kogi State Government has been drawn to a malicious, baseless and unfounded news story in some sections of the media alleging that the former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and top Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chieftains, including governors are on collision path over the re-election bid of Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada.

Reacting to the story, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Richard Elesho, described the story as demeaning, disrespectful and dishonest to the person and the status of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who was portrayed in the story as vindictive and intolerant of the religions belief of others, contrary to his widely acclaimed fair-mindedness and his spirit of accommodation.

Warning the public to be wary of media politics tailored to foist respectability on politicians that are dubious. The Governor’s spokesperson commended former President Goodluck Jonathan for his interest in ensuring that the Peoples’ Democratic under the leadership of Capt. Idris Wada remains focus ahead the governorship election.

Contrary to the claim in the report that the former President and former Governor Ibrahim Idris were opposed to the Governor’s second term, the statement affirmed that the attempt to deceive party leaders and obtain the Gubernatorial ticket by false pretence had fallen on its face, as the former President recently received leaders of the party who had visited to convey to him the decision of the leaders of the party to support Captain Idris Wada for a second term.

The Statement recalled that on that occasion, Governor Idris Wada in the company of party leaders like former Governor Ibrahim Idris, Chief Samuel Akande, Alhaji Sule Iyaji, Chief Partick Adaba, Prince Olushola Akanmode, former Deputy Chief of Staff in the presidency and a host of other party leaders and elders were with former President Goodluck Jonathan in his Abuja residence, where the former President promised to continue to work for the good of the party, especially for the candidature of Capt. Wada, whom he described as a humble, humane leader and a great asset to the PDP.

According to the statement, the hollowness of the false story could easily be detected by the claim that Governor Idris Wada visited former President Obasanjo before the general election, whereas the Governor visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo during his recent visit to Lagos and Ogun State out of courtesy more than five months after the presidential election.

The statement advised party members, especially delegates to the Governorship primaries to be wary of the activities of pretenders who plant the seed of discord among National leaders of the party with a view to securing unmerited favour and secure the highly prized Gubernatorial ticket of the party as was done by a former senator.

With the party primaries now fixed for Monday 14th September 2015, the statement said it expects that a free and fair process will be guaranteed by the party hierarchy.

The statement also called on mischief makers and propagandists to be diligent and truthful in reporting news and not to set out to malign or denigrate party leaders and senior citizens by uncooked statements, shrouded in nothing but lies and falsehood.
