People living along flood prone areas have been asked to remain
vigilant.
Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, stated this while
at the bank of River Niger to monitor historical markings at the bank
of River Niger an action he disclosed was geared towards enabling the
state government plan well ahead of the predicted flood.
Awoniyi said
the state will continue to keep watch, with a view to communicate early
to citizens of the anticipated flood as soon as it receives signal that
the water is approaching an alarming mark.
The State Deputy Governor
who also doubles as Chairman of Flood Management Committee, said there
is still a wide margin between the margin when the 2012 flood occurred,
said the present mark does not portend danger.
The Deputy Governor described the efforts to build well
laid drains in Lokoja township and efforts at clearing blocked drains in
the state as proactive measures by the state government that has
contributed to the free flow of water and made the state less prone to
flooding as is been experienced in other parts of the country.
