The wife of the Kebbi state governor, Hajiya Aishatu Atiku has pledged to sponsor the education of seven children of a blind couple, who
earn their living from begging.
Atiku announced the lifeline to the family when she visited
them at their Gesse ll Quarters, Birnin Kebbi, residence.
She said her foundation, "Mass Almajiri Literacy and
Poverty Alleviation Initiative (MALPAI)” would undertake the training of the
children up to tertiary education level.
She immediately directed that school uniforms should be
provided for the seven children and that they should be enrolled into Zannan
Gwandu Model Primary School on Monday.
The governor’s wife also donated food items, which included
five bags of rice, and toiletries and mosquito nets to the family.
She also directed the Ministry of Women Affairs to train the
parents and grandparents of the children on some vocation for their
self-reliance.
Responding to the gesture, grandfather in the family, Malam
Dattijo, described the intervention of the governor's wife in their lives as
‘’God sent’’.
He also described Atiku as an ‘’Angel’’ and pledged that the
family would continue to pray for her.
