WHO tasks journalists on health issues

The World Health Organisation (WHO) Consultant on Measles in Ogun, Miss Folashade Adepanisi has advised media practitioners to always guard against ambiguous reportage which may mislead Nigerians on government’s health campaign.

In the same vein, the Ogun Government also called for media support in sensitising the public, particularly mothers and care-givers, on measles follow-up campaign in the state.

Adepanisi gave the advice in Abeokuta, while briefing newsmen on the 2016 measles follow-up campaign.

The WHO consultant said the task of eradicating various diseases in Nigeria was the responsibility of all stakeholders, including the media which, she said, had a major role to play.

She said that 1,880 teams would be created from the 236 wards in the state to ensure that the people of the state, particularly those in rural areas, were appropriately sensitised.

Dr Nofiu Aigoro, the Permanent Secretary in the state ministry of health, explained that the event was part of government’s efforts in ensuring proper sensitisation of the people.

He said the sensitisation, particularly of mothers and care-givers, was necessary for them to bring their children within the range of nine to 59 months for measles vaccination at designated centres.
