A Kaduna based Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Safety Awareness and Environmental Support Initiative, on Wednesday said it had evacuated 1,300 refuse dump sites in four local government areas of Kaduna State.
Mr Yahaya Mohammed, Controller-General of the NGO, said that the refuse was evacuated from Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun and Igabi local government areas within seven days.
He said that the initiative was to compliment the effort of the state government towards sustaining a clean environment.
``There were refuse dumps heaped in various locations within the metropolis which government alone could not clear.
``The refuse had blocked access roads and we were afraid of witnessing an outbreak of communicable diseases in the areas.’’
Mohammed said that the organisation with the support of the state government mobilised five tippers, 11 lorry-loaders, tractors, spades and other materials for the task.
He commended Gov. Nasiru El Rufai for his support towards the success of the exercise and urged residents to maintain clean environment through proper disposal of refuse.
