Smart v Dino: Election Tribunal

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, acceded to order of the Appeal Court, compelling it to give accelerated hearing to the petition filed by Senator Smart Adeyemi, challenging the election of Dino Melaiye, as the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district.

 The order has therefore jettisoned motions on technicalities that may impair the time limit allotted to the tribunal.

Tribunal chairman, Justice Akon Ikpeme, said that the merit of the petition filed by Adeyemi would be expeditiously looked into, frowning at media reports which quoted Dino Melaiye saying the motions on technicalities were intentionally orchestrated at the tribunal to ensure that the time limit of the tribunal elapsed without going into the merit of the case.
