Kogi sanitation Board sets up mobile court to prosecute offenders

The Lokoja Sanitation and Waste Management Board (LSWMB) has set up a mobile court to prosecute sanitation offenders in the metropolis.

The General Manager of the board, Mrs Florence Joseph, stated this in Lokoja on Saturday.

She said the mobile court became necessary to change the attitude of uncooperative residents, who failed to obey environmental laws in the area.

 According to her, a team of health officers and law enforcement agents will carry out routine inspection in the metropolis between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m.to monitor compliance with the laws.

Joseph, who said offenders would be tried in the mobile courts, advised residents to cultivate the habit of dumping their waste at designated areas in the town.

She said the board had registered private companies, who indicated interest to partner with the state government, to manage waste in the area.

She further said the state government had equipped the board with the necessary equipment to rid the town of refuse.

Joseph said as part of efforts to keep the metropolis clean, government procured Skip loaders and Roll-on-Roll-off communal waste bins to assist the board perform its statutory duties.

She said a number of drums and equipment such as spade, wheel barrows and rakes had also been provided by the government.

She commended Gov. Idris Wada and his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, the chairman of the board for their unrivalled support.
