Sultan, UNICEF Urge Northern Governors To Promote Girl-child Education

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar and the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) have urged Governors of the 19 northern Nigerian states and parents to encourage girl-child education and eradicate the Almajiri syndrome.



They are of the opinion that the move will eradicate illiteracy and poverty in the region.

The Sultan and UNICEF Country Representatives made the call on Sunday in Kaduna at a one-day advocacy meeting with the Commissioners of Education and traditional rulers from the 19 northern states.

Today is world cancer Day


Each year on 4 February, World Health Organization (WHO) and International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) supports Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) promote ways to ease the global burden of cancer.

With this year's 'We can. I can.' campaign, awareness is raised to show the public that everyone can play a role in battling cancer.

Tambuwal launches programme to enroll 1.2m children into schools

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Tuesday launched an enrollment programme which would admit 1,268,000 new pupils into primary and junior secondary schools across the state.
The programme, launched at Bodinga town, headquarters of Bodinga Local Government Area of the state, was aimed at enhancing universal basic education to eligible children.
