FADAMA III spends N2.3bn on intervention programmes in Niger

The FADAMA III Additional Financing (AF) office, Niger, has spent N2.3 billion on intervention programmes in the state since 2014 when the project started.


Mr Aliyu Kutigi, its Project Coordinator made the disclosure in an interview.
“I will like to inform you that the Niger State FADAMA Coordination Office has disbursed N2.3 billion to implement various activities,’’ he said.

Kutigi said that the intervention areas include implementation of 475 business plans by the production clusters, rehabilitation of four irrigation schemes and rehabilitation of 31.10 kilometre roads in five locations.

He said that other intervention areas include construction of three Agricultural Equipment Hiring Centres, construction of six aggregation centres and other small infrastructure such as mini bridges and culverts under common users’ facilities.

The coordinator said that within the period under review, 1, 386 beneficiaries, 373 stakeholders and 351 youths attended workshops on capacity building.

The four year project, which began in 2014 and scheduled to end in December 2017, has been rescheduled to end in December 2019.
The project was intervening on four value chains of rice, tomato, cassava and sorghum in the six states of Niger, Anambra, Kogi, Kano, Enugu and Lagos.
