Aisha Buhari presents relief materials to less privileged persons in Bauchi

The wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, on Wednesday distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to less privileged persons in Bauchi State.

Buhari said the gesture was a demonstration that the weak and vulnerable groups in society were dear to her heart.

She noted that insurgency in the North-East of the country had destabilised and crippled both agricultural and other economic activities of the affected people.

Buhari further noted that the global economic recession had resulted to a hike in the prices of food items, thereby bringing hardship to many people.

She said that the exercise was to bring succour to the less privileged.

Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar, wife of Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State noted that the donation was timely as it came at the commencement of `Ramadan'.

Abubakar, however, warned those saddled with the distribution of the materials to be fair and just to ensure that they reached the targeted groups.

She said presence of the wife of the president during the exercise was a manifestation of her concern for the less privileged, especially women and children.

Gov. Abubakar, who was present at the occasion, said that the items would cushion the effects of hardship being faced by the people.

The governor said his administration was aware of the sufferings of the people in the state and promised that the state government would soon come up with a package to cushion the effect.

He commended the wife of the president for the gesture.

The materials included 3,000 bags of rice, 1,000 cartons of spaghetti, macaroni, couscous and 1,800 cartons of packaged garri.
