The Federal Government has called on the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Saad Abubakar the third to lead the campaign against maternal and child deaths in the country.
The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole made the call during a curtsey visit to the Sultan of Sokoto in his Palace.
Professor Adewole who led State Commissioners of Health who converged in Sokoto for the 58th National Council on use his personality and his office to support Federal Government effort at reducing maternal and new born deaths in the country.
Respondent the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar the-third called on the leaders to provide affordable healthcare services to the people.
Alhai Saad Abubakar promised that maternal and child health is part of the agenda of the Northern Traditional Council Committee meeting on Primary Healthcare.
He said that the committee would also embark on sensitization across the villages in the Northern part of the country on the need to access ante-national care services.
Alhaji Saad Abubakar therefore advocated that government at all levels should provide effective free ante-national care services across the states of the federation to attract the pregnant women to the hospitals.
