The Wife of Anambra Governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, on Saturday donated two-bedroom apartment each to five widows in the state.

The donation was in fulfillment of the governor’s wife pledge made to some widows in the state in October 2015.

The beneficiaries are Mrs Maureen Ekesiobi of Ogbunike from Isioye village Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area (LGA) and Mrs Nneuwa Nwajideofor of Enugwu Otu, Aguleri in Anambra East LGA.

Others are Mrs Chinyeaka Okeke of Amichi, Nnewi South LGA and Mrs Margaret Anoyou of Amorka, Ihiala LGA of the state.

Obiano also handed over a two-bedroom bungalow at Isioye village Umunya, Oyi LGA to late Mrs Chidili Igboamalu.

Igboamalu who died in December was alive when the governor’s wife made the promise to the widows in October.

Obiano, who handed over the keys of the completed building to Miss Blessing Igboamalu, the daughter of the deceased regretted that Mrs Igboamalu was not alive to receive her donation.

Blessing, who was full of praises for the governor’s wife, commended her for the charitable act.

The governor’s wife said she was fulfilled handing over the houses to the widows especially to the daughter of the deceased.

``This idea is to ensure that widows have a shelter and boreholes to enable the beneficiary widows have access to water,’’ she said.

Obiano said she was determined to support the efforts of the governor by empowering women and youths through her Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ).

She said that CAFÉ in the past two years had provided succour to various women and the needy in the society.

Mrs Vivian Okadigbo, a member representing Oyi constituency in the State Assembly commended the governor’s wife for the gesture to the widows.

Mrs Okeke, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the governor’s wife for the gesture and urged her to remember other widows.
