Father burns children’s hands over alleged stealing of money

The Police in Niger have declared wanted one Aminu Abdulkadir of Kpakungu area of Minna for allegedly burning the hands of his two children accusing them of stealing his money.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday in Minna.

``When their father came home he was informed about the missing money and he picked the two boys and burnt their hands.

``We are looking for him, we were informed that he travelled but I am assuring you that we will soon get him,’’ Elkana said.

He said that one of the two boys had sustained more burns than the other, adding that Abdulkadir committed the offence on April 21, 2016.

He said that the suspect, an artisan in his late 30s, committed the offence after his wife reported to him about the missing money.

A source close to the suspect’s family who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Abdulkadir’s wife had reported the case of the missing money to him.

He said in order to unravel the mystery surrounding the alleged stolen money, the wife then summoned the two children for questioning.

He said that it was then that she found N500 on one of them.

The source said the eight-year-old boys were said to have confessed to taking N1, 000 from their mother’s bag.

According to him, out of the sum, the children spent N500 on food, as they claimed that there was nothing to eat in the house.

He said on returning from work, Abdulkadir was briefed by his wife about the missing money and how the two boys took N1,000 and spent N500 out of it.

The source said that Abdulkadir immediately took them to the kitchen and began to burn their fingers.

He said it took the intervention of neighbours and his same wife to save the boys.

He said one of the suspect’s neighbours later called the police and the two boys were taken to the Police Clinic for treatment.
