UN records 6,878 killed, 12,388 wounded in Iraq in 2016

The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has announced that it recorded a total of 19,266 civilian casualties in Iraq in eight months of 2016, made up of 6,878 killed and 12,388 wounded.

Ban to UN member states: urgently ratify UN conventions against trafficking in women


UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has urged member states to urgently ratify and fully implement the UN Convention against Transnational Organised Crime and its protocols and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

UN official says Govt. of National Unity key to peace, stability in Libya

The UN on Tuesday said that the formation of the Government of National Accord (GNA) was one important leap on the path to peace and stability in Libya.
Mr Martin Kobler, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, said this in a congratulatory statement to the Libyan people.
