The royal funeral rites of passage for the late Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa, began on Wednesday evening in Benin.
The burial activities kicked off from Edaiken of Uselu Palace, the Crown Prince of Benin Kingdom, Eheneden Erediauwa.
The security agencies cordoned off strategic positions in Benin city, especially the roads leading to traditional places, where traditional rites will be performed
Frank Irabor, Secretary of Benin Traditional Council, said that the programme of events would last for 15 days, beginning from May 25, and end on Wednesday, June 8.
Irabor said the funeral rites were the sole responsibility of the Edaiken N'Uselu and heir apparent to the throne.
All burial ceremonies in Benin have been prohibited and the public has been advised to stay away from places where the traditional rites will take place.
Non-indigenes have advised to show respect and cooperate with Benin people, their customs and traditions.
